“I view debate not simply as a game of argumentation, but as an avenue for self-exploration and a way to strengthen advocacy for yourself and what you find important.”

Eddie Fitzgerald joined the Poly community in 2017 as an assistant debate coach and during his tenure at Poly went on to become the Associate Director of Debate. In 2022, he was named Director of Forensics and Debate. In college, Eddie competed in Policy Debate, focusing on anti-racist argumentation through a performative and narrative-based style. In 2011, he was appointed to the Cross Examination Debate Association (CEDA) All-American Team and was a National Debate Scholar Honorable Mention. While competing, his team captured first place in 13 out of 15 national team championships, and he was honored with the Most Outstanding Debater Award his senior year. He studied philosophy and history as an undergraduate, and received a Master of Arts in Urban Education from New Jersey City University. Helping students learn fascinates and excites Eddie, and he loves seeing confidence and critical thinking flourish in students through speech and debate. In his free time, he enjoys playing soccer, exhausting himself at CrossFit, and talking about books and movies.
